Who and what is Prometheus?
Prometheus is one of the most popular characters in Greek myths. He is the son of Iapetus, making him a Titan. Although in Greek myths Titans were considered to be evil and sided against the gods, Prometheus was a calm and wise individual who was the ultimate trickster. He always made the smart decisions, and when the war between Gods and Titans happened he sided against his own kind due to the fact that the Gods were more likely to win. Prometheus was also associated to another important character in Greek mythology, Pandora. Pandora married his brother, Epimetheus even though he had warned Epimetheus that nothing good would come out of it. Pandora is infamously known to be the one to open the ¨box¨ that released all the dangerous spirits within, except for one, hope.

Prometheus was also a Titan that fought for the Gods in the Titanomachy (The war between Gods and Titans). This was not just purely out of being heroic, known to be the cleverest of the Titans, he saw that the Gods were in favor of this war and sided with them. The Gods did win, and Prometheus was known to be a heroic and good titan.
Why is Prometheus a hero?Prometheus doesn't seem like a likely candidate for the category of being a hero, however in the myths told by the Greeks he is perhaps one of the most important Titans, and one of the most despised by the Gods. However, according to the Greeks,, without Prometheus, the human race would not have survived, nor would mankind be created. He was the creator and also the helper of mankind. It is said that he loved us more than the Gods themselves.
